The Littlest Jumper

Joerg, Ann, and Oli sent Carolyn a "jump-a-roo" when she was born... and we set it up a couple of weeks ago. She loved playing with the toys on it, but just learned how to jump in the past few days. Perhaps she grew that last 1/2 inch allowing her feet to touch the ground or perhaps the springs loosened up a bit from her sitting in it. Whatever the case, she loves the toy and spends quite a bit of time in it each day. The only problem is that I hate how big it is, so it hides out in the guest bedroom.

Carolyn's First Hair Cut

The other day I mentioned to Steve that I wanted to trim Carolyn's hair ... because she had a really bad mullet. He at first said that I should not cut it, but after looking at the long tail at the base of her hairline for a few days, he agreed. So when we came home from a long hike this afternoon, we trimmed it up. I wish I had a 'before' picture so we could compare. It is such an improvement.

Halloween Festival

Carolyn and I met a friend and her son at Gardner Village. The whole place is decorated with witches. Very cute.

4-Month Check-Up

She is growing and healthy, but man did she hate the appointment. She screamed like I have never heard her scream. She was so upset she would not even nurse. Oh well, she got her shots and is now sleeping soundly. She now weighs 12 pounds 5 oz and is 24.5 inches long. That is 5 inches and almost 6 pounds since birth.

Hard to believe, Carolyn is 4 months old today.

Playtime ... turns into naptime

Carolyn is figuring out how to make her hands move things, how to hold on to things, etc. Today, when I walked away to go to the bathroom, she was laughing with excitement as she awkwardly hit the toy on her chair, making it spin in circles. When I came back, not more than a minute later, she was sound asleep. Hand-eye coordination must take a lot out of her. (it never was my strong point, either!)

Carolyn's Friends

As you may recall, two of my friends, Julie and Heather, were pregnant at the same time as me. Our due dates were all within a month of each other, but the kid's birthdates are within two weeks of each other. Carolyn was born on June 18th; Oliver was born on June 30th; and Maxwell on July 1. Here are the kids at our lunch date today.

She Rolled Over

Yesterday, I was reading one of those books that said what milestones babies should reach by what age. I felt guilty because it said she would not roll over until later if I do not give her enough tummy time, and I rarely put her on her belly, maybe a few minutes every few days. So, yesterday, I put her on her belly twice, once in the morning and once in the evening. In the evening, she rolled over from front to back. She did it four times in a row. We tried again this morning but all she did was thrash her legs around and then threw up on her blanket. I guess I should not make her try when she has a full belly .... Below are two short videos. The first one is her rolling, but I did not totally capture it. It never really dawned on me to get the camera. By the time I did, she was already halfway over, so I only have the film from side to back. After that, she was getting pretty grumpy and frustrated, so she squealed like a cat and tried to bite her hands instead.

An entry because I have not posted in over a week ...

I was reminded today that I have not posted any pictures in over a week.... so here are two pictures of Carolyn, taken on Monday. Cute as ever! (or at least I think so) Carolyn does not have any new tricks to speak of. Though, I think she is figuring out how to use her hands more. She also developed her first case of diaper rash, but thankfully, it was gone as quickly as it came. It was only there for one or two diaper changes.

Steve has been giving Carolyn her bath the past few nights. He took a video because she goes absolutely CRAZY in the bathtub. Such a difference, compared to the hysterical screaming fits she used to have.
