The New Year's Eve Surprise!
We cashed in some of our cancelled travel credits from 2020 and spent the night at Grand America in downtown Salt Lake. We had a suite, plus an extra room for the girls. They were so surprised, as they thought we were just going to see the lights and holiday decorations. We swam, got carry-out Italian, watched a livestream Michael Franti concert, and feasted at the fancy brunch the next morning. Buffets are not allowed during COVID, but the girls each ordered every single plate offered so they could try everything.
Christmas
We were not able to have our annual Christmas Day pizza party with our friends. Instead, we delivered homemade soft pretzels and hand-churned butter to all of our local friends. For Christmas Eve, we made filets and lobster tails. On Christmas day, we kept our PJs on all day and watched movies. Favorite and notable gifts included Alexa speakers for the girls' room and clothes. Before Christmas, we made gingerbread houses and decorated the house. This year, the girls made pillows and cone-trees to make our house feel festive. We put up more outdoor lights than we ever have. Lizzie visited Santa's helper in a workshop at the zoo, and we helped her send her wishes directly to the North Pole by writing notes to santa and burning them. Lizzie asked for Pop-figurines from the Hunger Games, something bird-related for Carolyn, and a squeaky toy for JoJo. He delivered, exactly as requested, so I guess the girls were good this year.
