The Mihalopoulos-Scoville Wedding

Our dear friends (and faithful blog-readers), Joshua & Nikki, are officially married. Below are a few pictures from the wedding festivities. Congrats to you two. We hope you are enjoying your honeymoon. And, more importantly, we look forward to many new and grand adventures with you in the future.

Since the wedding gave us the opportunity to get dressed up, Tess and I took advantage of it and spoiled ourselves at the salon. We both got our hair and make-up done for the wedding. Tess says her big hair look was that of an "astronaut's wife," while Frank (our stylist) said he was going for the sleek hair, smokey eye Armani look for me. Whatever. It was fun!

The Moms Come to Visit

What a special trip ... Grandma Carol and Grandma Lynn came out together to SLC for a visit. Fortunately for them, Steve and I had a very busy weekend, so they got to spend a lot of time with Carolyn. Caroly, who had a pretty bad cold the whole time, enjoyed all of the extra attention. After they left, she wandered where all of her grannies went. Thanks Moms. We really enjoyed your visit, and appreciate the free babysitting we had all weekend. We miss you already.

The Grandmas Come to SLC

What a special trip .... both grandma Lynn & grandma Carol came to visit us in SLC at the same time. Fortunately for both us and them, they came at a time when we were both super busy. They got to spend a lot of time with Carolyn, and we saved a bundle on babysitters.

Carolyn does not seem all that impressed with Grandma Carol's newfound skiing abilities, or Grandma Lynn's torch carrying skills (Olympic Museum in Park City).

Despite being under-the-weather, Carolyn had fun showing off for her two grandmas. She also loved all of the extra attention she got from them, taking advantage of their willingness to rock her to sleep and holding her while napping.

San Francisco Trip

We went to SF with the Staley's. Technically, I was there for work. Fortunately, I was able to do a lot with the family.

  • Carolyn saw the ocean for the first time.
  • We learned all sorts of cool things at the Exploratorium museum
  • The kids played on an awesome playground in Golden Gate Park
  • One set of adults had a 'date' night, while the other set of adults watched the kids
  • Pierce rearranged his schedule, so we could spend a day with him in the city
  • We did NOT get dim-sum, nor did we have fish tacos (boo!)

A Lullaby for our Sweet Girl

On Friday, we went to the Diana Krall concert at Red Butte Garden with the Staley's, Nikki, and Joshua.

For some unknown reason, Carolyn went from a happy giggly girl enjoying the music of the opening act to a miserable fussy girl with a hairtrigger temper, all within a matter of seconds. At first, we thought it was because she spilled her blueberries on the ground, but then she started acting like she was in pain, but we could not see or understand why (Poor baby, I wish she could just tell us what was wrong!). After crying inconsolably for about 15 minutes, my nerves were shot and I was ready to take her home. Fortunately, though, my friends and husband convinced me to stay. At that time, I sat down and ate my dinner, while Steve and Michelle took Carolyn and her son Max for a walk around the lake where Carolyn began to soothe herself. Shortly after Diana Krall came on stage, they came back to our group. Instead of handing her back to me, Michelle continued to hold Carolyn in the sling, rocking her back and forth to the music. The artist took notice of the site and broke from her set to sing a lullaby to Carolyn. Before the song was even over, Carolyn had quietly fallen asleep in Michelle's arms, where she stayed the rest of the show.

To tell you the truth, I am not sure if I was more moved by
how sweet and special the lullaby was, or how fortunate we are
to have a friend like Michelle who helps us out
at those unpredictable moments when parenting seems so hard.

See the excerpt below from one review of the show. I wish I had a photo or video to capture the moment in the evening.

" ..... While her instrument keeping Krall anchored to one spot on stage, she put out extra effort to connect with her audience, spinning on her chair to peer out at all corners of the venue, chatting with enthusiastic fans in the front rows and kicking into a short lullaby for one mother she spotted rocking her baby to the sounds of the show."

Oh yeah, and we still do not know why Carolyn was so crabby so suddenly on Friday. She was drooling a lot, so perhaps another tooth is trying to make its appearance. Or, perhaps it was the terrible diaper rash she had that evening, which went away as quickly as it appeared. Who knows. Babies are strange that way!
