Cross Fit

Most of you have probably heard about the CrossFit exercise fad.  Carolyn's school friends enjoyed a field trip to a local CrossFit gym.  They had a blast.  And, I loved seeing the 3 and 4 year olds doing burpees and squat jumps and push-ups.  They ran through obstacle courses.  They made their own workout shirts and water bottles.  It was 2 hours of fun, but more importantly, an exciting step in teaching young kids the importance of fitness and wellness for their lives.

A One Night Vacation

Our mini vacation started with skiing, as part of Steve's company's family ski day, at Brighton Resort.  Carolyn took a lesson and achieved  Level 5, which means she smiles and has a good attitude, can get her skis on and off, can get on and off the lift, knows how to stop, and is in control and can turn on both green and blue runs.  She has a lot still left to learn, but not too bad for her first year.   While she was in her lesson, Steve and I got to ski together for a few hours.  We had not skiied together for a couple of years, so it was nice to be out together on the mountain.  Skiing is fun, but the real joy comes from being on top of a mountain with a sky so blue that it looks purple.

A few videos of the skiiers -- the first one is me, the second one is Carolyn.

After our ski day, we picked up Elizabeth from the babysitter and went to a hotel.  It was only a few miles from home, but it felt like we were miles away on vacation.  Sometimes, you do not need to go that far or that long to get that vacation feeling.  We all thouroughly enjoyed our time together.  We watched movies, ate carry out, slept in, and giggled a lot.  We stayed at a new brand of hotel called the "Hyatt House" because Steve had a coupon for a free night.  However, we are hooked and will seek out this chain again, for sure.  The room had a full kitchen, separate bedroom, and a full living room.   A legitimate hot breakfast was served in the morning.  So much better than a normal hotel room, especially for a family.
