Summer Vacation to Ohio

I kind of forgot about the blog, with the busyness of summer.  We have not done anything to note, but we seem to be always on the run, doing something fun, and never sitting down until  at least 9 or 10 at night.

In late June and early July, we made our annual trip to the midwest.  Here are the photos and stories from our trip.

First stop, Ann Arbor.  It rained so hard that Carolyn asked what was happening and whether this is the type of storm that occurs when tornadoes occur.  The streets were flooded, so we were not able to walk around town too much.  But, thankfully, our hotel had an awesome indoor pool and we were able to see our friends Joerg, Ann, and Oliver.  Steve was also able to have lunch with his old boss and mentor, Neil.  We got to eat at our favorite bar, Caseys, and for a moment, Steve and I remembered what it was like before having kids.  Elizabeth was sound asleep in her carseat the entire meal.  Then, almost as soon as our dinner arrived, Carolyn fell asleep mid-bite sitting up in her chair.  Steve and I enjoyed a beer and reminisced about living in Ann  Arbor. It is hard to believe that we left there 9 years ago.

Second stop, Cleveland.  Visits with the Altmans.  Steve enjoyed a round of golf with his brother and dad.  The girls and I visited with Katy, Dave, Lauren, Landon in Hudson.  We enjoyed a cookout at Scott & Char's.  We tried to teach Carol how to use an I-Pad.  (maybe she is looking at the blog from her new i-pad now!).  Of course, we had the Altman birthday party, where we celebrate everyone's birthday whether you have a birthday in June or not (though, almost everyone does celebrate their birthday in the month of June).  Steve got to see Travis fly his plane, and Carolyn cannot stop talking about how her cousin Rachel spun her around and around in the yard.  Carolyn and I stayed awake one night and were treated to a great fireworks show with Grandpa Harry. We went to church where there was the annual rummage sale; Carolyn picked out a grim reaper costume that she insisted on wearing much of our trip. While the rains were not as hard as they were in Ann Arbor, they were still quite present during our days in Cleveland.

Third stop, Dayton.  Here, we saw the Utzs.  And, guess what?  More rain.  We stood under umbrellas while we watched the 4th of July parade; we skipped the festival all toghether.  Golf games and fishing trips were cancelled.  We were not able to go to the pool or King's Island.  Despite the rain, we still had fun.  Most of all, Carolyn and Elizabeth loved seeing their cousins, Addie and Emerson.  Steve and I enjoyed our night out to the Pine Club with my parents, and to Flemings with my brother and my parents.  Carolyn and Addie got their nails done.  The for cousins made matching T-shirts to wear for fourth of july.  And, most of all, Grandma Lynn and Grandpa Mike took plenty of time to spoil the girls and make our rain filled trip extra special.

We love making the rounds to see both sides of the family during our summer vacation in Ohio.
We love you all.  And, we miss you lots.

Stuffed Animal Sleepover

We dropped off "Mr Owl Face" to the library on a Friday. We went back on Saturday morning for donuts, milk, and a video showing what all the stuffed animals did over night. The monkeys snuck out and slept in tents. The dolls spent a lot of time in the bathroom doing their hair and make up. The owls (including Carolyn's) read books to some other animals and made a slide out of the stairs and some cardboard. Carolyn could hardly believe all the fun that the stuffed animals had at the slumber party. Me? I think I want to volunteer to help take the pictures and videos of the animals. Very creative and fun.

Fortunately, both girls sleep in pretty late on the weekends (9 even 10 sometimes). If we have nothing planned, I try not to make too much noise upstairs and just let it happen. For the past few weekends, this is what I have found when I finally hear the girls up and moving in the morning.

Sisters.
Pretty awesome.
