A Weekend in Portland

I met Kristin and Jen for a long weekend in Portland. We chose Portland because it was a destination that none of us had been to.

Kristin and I arrived late Thursday night, with Jen arriving even later given the four-hour delay she endured. Kristin and I shared a burger at the McMenimin's microbrewery by our hotel while we waited on Jen to show up. On Friday, we visited Oregon's wine country. We took a tour at Archery Summit and Lehmelson's wineries and then visited the tasting room at Argyle. Beautiful countyside. Later that night, we ate dinner at Higgin's in downtown Portland. On Saturday, we woke up and decided to start our day with a brisk walk around the city. We literally walked the entire city. After our "exercise" was over, we showered at the hotel and started walking some more. We first went to the Saturday Market, which featured local artisans, musicians, and food. We then walked through the Pearl district, where Jen bought a coat and Becky got a pedicure. We finished our time in the Peal District with a tour of the Bridgeport brewery. We later enjoyed happy hour at the Portland City Grill on the 30th floor of the US Bank building; and our day was finished by a tapas meal at a Cuban restaurant called Oba. After sleeping in on Sunday, we enjoyed brunch at Equinox, the restaurant owned by Alex Hacker's sister in law. We then drove out toward the river gorge where we saw some beautiful waterfalls; Multnomah falls were the biggest falls in the area where we did a short hike to the top. Before returning our car, we made sure to drive through the few notable areas of Portland that we missed on our walking tours (NW 23rd, Nob Hill). We finished our trip with a particularly good dinner at Cafe Mingo on Sunday night. Before flying home, I met Alex Hacker for breakfast on Monday.

Good friends, good food, good times!
