My dad came to town late Saturday night -- he was surprised at how tiny Carolyn is. I think he was also surprised at how much work a newborn is. I was thankful to have extra hands around the house and was so proud to introduce our daughter to my parents when she is so young. During his visit, when he was not napping with Carolyn on his chest, he braved the 100+ degree weather to create a new flowerbed in our yard. It is Carolyn's own garden, complete with a japanese maple, flowering annuals, and a personalized garden stone. We planted the stump of the umbilical cord stump with the tree, hoping that it will bring life to the tree as it grows. (by the way, Carolyn managed to pull off her own umbilical cord stump. I found it firmly grasped in her hand when she was 5 days old.)

Dear Becky and Steve,
Big congrats on Baby Carolyn. She looks gorgeous. Glad your parents could come and see her. I see that Leo has already claimed her as his own.
The whole family looks fit and fine ... keep up the good work.
Love, Aunt Lee in Ohio.
Love,
