Circus

Well, it was not the great Barnum and Bailey's Circus. It was instead the budget-conscious "Carson and Barnes" circus. Seriously, it only cost $25 for me, heather, and three kids. We did the "family" deal which included 2 adults, 3 kids, and $10 in carnival cash, which was used for popcorn and snocones. Unfortunately, the elephant (which Carolyn was most excited about) was sick and had to miss the show. I wondered, later, though whether the circus really has an elephant, or whether they say that at every show. They did have a zebra, but I also wondered later whether it was actually a horse with painted stripes. I wish I would have looked closer.

The performers were good, but probably not as polished as they should have been. One of the trapeze artists missed his catch, and one of the tightrope walkers fell during his act. Instead of seeing elephants dance, we saw a woman do tricks with her pet dogs. However, I loved the fact that it was all inside of a tent. We sat on bleachers in the grass. And, the kids loved it. They had no idea it was not as grand as some of the other circuses. They especially liked the pony rides and the petting zoo. Our night at the circus, which included our tickets, dinner, snacks, souvenirs, and pony rides, only cost about $20.

I wish I had taken a video of this. At the very end, all of the performers came out singing "It's a Grand Old Flag." Carolyn stood up, grabbed her piece of paper, and marched along while conducting the music with her baton.

PS - Dad, I did NOT buy Carolyn a blinky-light. They were $10! I did, however, give for a coloring book. It was only $1.
