Part 1 of Summer Vacation.
We arrived in Cleveland and had an awesome time with the Altman clan.
Events to note include a private tour of the zoo set-up by Grandpa Harry. We got to feed the giraffes, meet the rhinos' keeper, see the new elephant exhibit. All from the comfort of a van, driven by one of Harry's friends who happens to be a lead keeper at the zoo. When he told us about it, we thought it was too good to be true, but it was for real. And it was a great way for Carolyn to see the zoo with Grandpa Harry. Despite the behind-the-scenes tour, Carolyn favorite part of the zoo was probablu the painted pink elephant statue.
Brecksville was celebrating its Bicentennial, so we saw a parade (with clydesdales) and fireworks (from the first row).
We made a stop at the Winking Lizard, where Carolyn tried her first video game.
We had the Altman family birthday party, where we celebrated everyone's birthday (even those few of us who do not have June birthdays). Thanks to Scott and Bill, and anyone else who had a hand in planning it.
We visited Katy, Dave, Lauren, and Landon in Hudson. The girls warmed up to one another, and proceeded to get filthy when they fell in a mud puddle. After their baths, they tried to convince us to let them sleep together.
Steve enjoyed some nice rounds of golf with Scott and his dad, while Carol, Carolyn, and I went to Memphis Kiddie Park. Katy met us there, so Carolyn and Lauren got to ride all of the rides together!
Finally, the highlight of this trip was probably Carolyn's introduction of "Wizard of Oz" ... Thank you Grandma Carol. Carolyn didn't just like the movie, she is absolutely crazy about it. She wears her ruby slippers and her Dorothy dress every moment she possibly can, including to bed. The dress is already getting tattered on the bottom hem, and the slippers are losing their shine. She tells everyone her name is Dorothy. Leo's name has been changed to Toto. And, she probably knows every word to the movie. LOVE. Or maybe, I should say obsession.
