Both girls went to the doctor yesterday ..... both are healthy and well. Elizabeth got a bunch of shots, and both girls got weighed and measured. Carolyn also had a vision test, showing she has about 20/40 vision. I am not sure how accurate the test is because it was pretty hard for a 4 year old, especially one who sometimes mixes up her letters and has a hard time standing still and holding a hand over one eye.
ELIZABETH at 2 months
- 22.6" (52nd percentile)
- 9 lbs 13 oz (13th percentile)
- 38 cm head circumference (15th percentile)
CAROLYN at 4 years
- 42.5 inches (94th percentile)
- 34 lbs (38th percentile)
Carolyn has gotten tall and skiny over the past year. Her weight dropped down a curve, and her heigh jumped up several curves on the standard growth profile. If she keeps it up, she will be a very tall and skiny girl. Her athleticism has improved tremendously over the past year too, so maybe she will be an athlete. She woudl get that from Dad, not me. Her ball skills (catching, throwing) are not great, but she runs and jumps like a real athlete (not like a bumbling kid) and she has these awesome little muscles on her arms and legs. She is not afraid to try anything physically. The other day she saw steve doing some pull-ups in the garage, so she started doing them from the bar in the kitchen. I was impressed by her strength. Also, I will take a video soon of her riding her bike, as she is very quickly mastering the bike without training wheels. We still have to help balance the bike to get her started, and we still run next to her as she pedals (because I do not think she knows how to stop), but we can barely keep up running next to her anymore. If she does fall, it is because she slows down so much that the bike tips over in slow motion. She gets mad and says "Stupid Bike!" but then is back on it within seconds. She is a determined little girl, not afraid of much!
Elizabeth weighs exactly the same as Carolyn did on her 2 month check up. Exactly. But she is about a half inch shorter than Carolyn was. When I compared pictures of the two girls at 2 months, Elizabeth is not quite as expressive in her face and she is not nearly as strong as Carolyn was. Carolyn constantly wanted to be standing on her feet, and could hold her head up really well. Elizabeth will usually crumble if you put her on her feet. Her neck is getting stronger, but she is still pretty bobble-y. She makes some faces, but not necessarily on cue. Although Elizabeth may not be as physically strong as Carolyn was, she is definitely more content and easy-going than her sister ever was. She has such a sweet and gentle demeanor. Elizabeth is also a good sleep -- a pretty consistent overnight sleep with a 5-6 hour block, followed by a 3-4 hour block. That is similar to what Carolyn was doing at that age, but Elizabeth also naps beautifully during the day, unlike her sister at 2 months. Although I am more laidback than I was with Carolyn, Elizabeth is nowhere near as intense or active as Carolyn. She is mellow. I probably should not compare them, but it is a good benchmark for me. The doc said that for being born a month early, Elizabeth is perfect. Right on target developmentally.
