My dad and two of his friends (Bob and Steve) packed up his truck and pointed west. They were on an epic, multi-week cross country adventure that took them through many states and by a number of famous roadside attractions and national parks. They saw the vastness of the landscape and the variety of terrains that make the US such an incredible site. I am pretty sure they saw plenty of casinos, ate at both good and bad restaurants, and visited many rest stops and gas station bathrooms along the way. I know they enjoyed the time, though were at times probably bored with the amount of driving they did each day. It is hard to comprehend how big the U.S really is until you drive it day after day.
They arrived in Salt Lake City, with a truck full of cherished treasures to deliver. We received a dining set and stereo console that were the first pieces of furniture that Steve's parents bought when they were married. I am beyond thrilled and honored to now have them in our home. They delivered a box of photos and yearbooks and other memobilia that I had left at my parent's house. These memories have made my laugh cry, and reach out to a number of people who I have not talked to in years. The truck carried the stamp and coin collections from Steve's dad, which Steve has poured over since receiving. These were all things we had wanted and that were important to us, but we were not exactly sure how to get them out to us in Utah. We are so thankful that my dad, Bob, and Steve climbed into that truck and decided to pursue this adventure. It means so much to us.
The girls were also excited to see Grandpa for a few days. Grandpa brought lunch to Carolyn and joined her at recess at school. After school, he took Carolyn to the western store to buy some cowboy boots and snow boots for Lizzie -- because she already has cowboy boots which are part of her outfit every day! He was somewhat tempted to buy himself a pair of cowboy boots, but decided he would probably not wear them after he was out of the west and back home in Ohio.
Thanks Dad, Bob, and Steve.
What a treat it was to see you and the big black truck all the way out here!
