2nd Full Day of Life, 1st Day at Home

Our second night of life was pretty rough. She frantically wanted to eat, but I had no milk to offer her yet. When the morning came, the pediatrician said she has lost 9-10% of her bodyweight since birth and was starting to show signs of jaundice. He ordered some sort of test and while it showed an elevated bilirubin level, it was not too high to be concerned about. He then said that once my milk comes in (which it is!), the jaundice will quickly subside and her body weight will stabilize. He then said that Carolyn was ready to go home, but that I should see him monday morning for her first doctor's visit. My OB then came in and said she was ready to discharge me, as well. So we packed up our things, signed a bunch of papers, and learned how to use the car seat (the second she was put in it, she fell soundly asleep).

Among the highlights of our first day at home ... Carolyn met her big brother Leo. She checked out all of the cool new stuff in her room. Mom had a glass of champagne, a nap, and a long hot shower. Dad has been so good to the girls, cooking us great meals for lunch and dinner, cleaning the house, and answering the phone calls. He has also had to pay extra attention to Leo, who is not sure what to think about the miniture person who seems to be here to stay.

Carolyn is a doll. Neither Steve nor I can stop looking at her. Love. True love.

She is a treasure. The picture of you with a well deserved glass of champaign while she is sitting in her car seat is really cute. She is so clean and pink it is hard to believe that she's only 4 day with us. Steve, I see you have everything well in hand. You are a beautiful family.

Lots of love,

Grandpops and Grandma Carol
