The forgotten child

Leo is getting old.  He turned 12 last february.  He is starting to show his age.  His eyesight is pretty poor.  His hearing is not that great.  He has been have seizures (about once a month).  He can no longer jump up to the couch or bed, at least not very easily.  Generally, he is just a lot slower than he used to be.  He is also a bit crazier; he barks more now than he ever has.

Here is how I found him the other morning.  He stacked up the pillows for the perfect lounging spot in the sunshine.

UPDATE:  not more than a week after I originally posted this message, Leo hurt his back.  We are not sure how, but were not all that surprised because he has done it many times in his life.  As he was favoring his back, he fell down the stairs.  I saw him flop down about 6 stairs.  After that, he was really hurting.  He did not move for a couple of days, and would just lay there whining.  Steve and I even talked seriously about how this might be the end for Leo.  We thought we were going to have to make the difficult decision to put him to sleep this summer because he was essentially paralyzed.  However, after keeping him drugged-up for several weeks, he has started to show some recovery and regain some of his strength.  Looks like he is going to make it.  Phew.
