The camp pillow

In just a few short hours, I will drop carolyn off at sleep-away camp.  It is only for three days and two nights, but it still seems like a pretty big adventure for such a little girl.   I am not sure what to think about this, but I guess I am mostly excited because she is SO excited.

The one thing that she asked me to do before she left for camp was to please make her a pillow.  I said i would do it one night,  not thinking she would hold me to it.  But in true carolyn style, she did not forget.  To make this particular pillow, I had to lay on a piece of fabric, so she could trace my body.  Well, mostly she just wanted my arm and hand because she said "if I wake up in middle of night, I really like to snuggle with you.  You won't be there, but the pillow will remind me that you are thinking of me and that I should just go back to sleep. "

I put an extra special touch on the pillow tonight that she will find at camp . ... I sewed a heart shaped pocket and in it, I put a couple of family photos on a string that she can pull out and look at.  On the back of each picture is a little note.

I admit,  the pillow is kind of weird.   Maybe even creepy.  But I just love that this is what carolyn needed/wanted to be able to go to get first sleep-away camp.

More camp stories (and hopefully pictures) later.  We drop her off at 9 tomorrow (Monday) morning, and pick her up at 630 Wednesday evening.
