The End of Summer Camps -- Reviews and Recaps

I did not get as many photos from Carolyn's last few weeks of summer camps. But here are my notes on the rest of her summer.

She did 3 weeks at University of Utah kids camp called ClubU.  She loved these weeks -- mostly because there were a bunch of male counselors and she has never had any sort of male teacher.  The counselors are all college kids who go to the University.  The counselors try to incorporate science and learning and exposure to the university faculty/facilities as much as possible.  Each week has a different theme.  She did a week called Wild, Wild Wasatch -- where they learned about the natural environment in our area, including a visit by a bird expert and a geologist.  They learned first aid skills for hiking and camping.  They then spent a day at a local reservoir.  The next week was called Building Fun in the 801.  This week, they split into teams to design and build a miniature golf course, a playground, and water rockets.  They wrapped up the week with a trip to a water park.  The final week was "Club U Talent Week" -- Carolyn was in a group that made a music video, so they learned about performance and film editing.  Each camper group also had to put on a performance for a talent show at the end of the week.  The video below is her group's talent.  Not so much talent in their performance, but the video she made was awesome.  I wish the camp would have posted that one. I think they are using it as a commercial for next year's camp, so they did not release it on YouTube with the talent show videos.  Repeat this camp, for sure!  With my faculty discount, it was one of the cheapest camp weeks.  Sign up early, by February.

She spent a week at the zoo and red butte gardens.  The mornings were at the zoo, and the afternoons at Red Butte Gardens.  She said this week was one of her favorites, but honestly all of the weeks were her favorite.  I think she was lucky to have such a fun summer with so many exciting camps.  I guess if we have to work, we may as well make the summer months exciting and varied as possible.

She also spent a week rock climbing.  This was a half-day camp at the Front Gym from 9 to 1.  I liked the half-days a few weeks before school started, because we spent the afternoons going school shopping and doing other special things as the summer was coming to an end.  Check out Momentum Gym's program next year.

The final week of the summer was at Snowbird resort.  This is one of the only camps around town that offers something during the final week of the summer.  It is expensive, and dropping-off and picking-up at the mouth of the canyon was not the most convenient .... but she enjoyed the time up there probably because she had a lot of friends do this camp with her (Olive, Taryn, Hayden, Roman, and several other kids that she met throughout the summer at other camps)  The bus arrived early (745am) which made car pool pick-up really early, but it was a great transition back to a normal school schedule because they went to bed early and got up early.   Consider doing this one again for the final week before school starts.
