Both girls are Cheetahs this summer! They are doing the Central City Cheetah (CCC) track and field team. It lasts 8 weeks, with practices three times a week and several meets during the season. Last week was their first set of practices, and last night was their first meet. It was a practice meet for the youngest and first-time participants. There were no times and all kids could run in any event they wanted. It was an opportunity for them to see how track and field meets are run and how long each distance is.
Our girls tried the hurdles, the long jump, the shotput (with softballs for their age group), the 100 M dash, and the 400m run. Carolyn also jumped into the 400m race walk at the last minute. When she was walking to the start line, she asked "What is Race Walk?" The coach just told her to walk fast, pump her arms, and not break into a jog. She won that race. (too bad it isn't an event in the real events).
